June 20, 2022 — ICONLOOP (CEO JH Kim), a leading Korean blockchain company, announced that it issued finisher certificates for the 26th Jeju International Tourism Marathon Festival, held on June 19, through broof (www.broof.io), its blockchain certificate issuance service.
broof, used to issue the finisher certificates, is ICONLOOP's blockchain certificate issuance service, supporting the issuance and permanent storage of certificates that cannot be forged or altered. Institutions can issue certificates without building a separate database system, improving security, while recipients can readily view the various blockchain certificates held in broof anytime, anywhere — and protect their personal data by choosing for themselves what certificate information is disclosed.
Now in its 26th year, the Jeju International Tourism Marathon Festival is Jeju's first citizen marathon, open to ordinary runners since 1995. Hosted by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and organized by the Jeju Tourism Association, it is a sports festival sanctioned by the Korea Association of Athletics Federations (KAAF). As the first running of the marathon since it was suspended due to COVID-19, the event drew many runners from Jeju and beyond, and broof finisher certificates were issued to every participant, adding to the occasion. This was the first time blockchain finisher certificates had been issued to marathon participants in Jeju, and the organizers expect them to raise the transparency of certification while giving participants a meaningful experience.
"Issuing blockchain finisher certificates for the Jeju International Tourism Marathon Festival is significant as the first application of broof in the sports market," said ICONLOOP CEO JH Kim. "ICONLOOP will continue working to create safer, more trustworthy certification systems through broof and to implement them across every area of society."
broof is currently used not only by major public institutions including the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korean National Police Agency but across education, conferences, the arts, and other areas that require certificate issuance. Certificates issued through broof can also be managed and stored through Zzeung (www.zzeung.id), ICONLOOP's DID identity verification service.
