ICONLOOP Deploys Blockchain DID-Based Access Authentication at POSCO Group Satellite Offices

December 6, 2021, Seoul — ICONLOOP (CEO JH Kim), a leading Korean blockchain company, announced that it has deployed a blockchain DID (Decentralized Identifier)-based access authentication system at POSCO Group's satellite offices.
As companies continue opening satellite offices to sustain the remote working that took hold through COVID-19 and to create flexible work environments, difficulties have persisted on both sides: for companies, operational complexity arising from differing management systems across affiliates and units; for employees, the inconvenience of carrying multiple cards because each building has its own access system. Resolving this called for a system capable of managing access control across multiple offices in an integrated way.
ICONLOOP deployed a blockchain DID-based access authentication system at With POSCO Work Station, POSCO Group's shared satellite offices located in Parc.1 in Yeouido and the Geumsegi Building in Euljiro, Seoul, implementing a smart office with integrated access control. POSCO Group employees can now verify their employment and enter satellite offices using only their mobile device, with no building-specific card required, and system management and operation have become more straightforward.
The DID technology applied in the system provides identity verification in remote environments and lets users manage their personal data directly. Group employees prove their identity themselves on the basis of their affiliation and other information before entering a building, thereby controlling and managing their own information.
"With remote workplaces expected to grow steadily as the remote era takes hold, a trustworthy integrated management system will become essential rather than optional," said ICONLOOP CEO JH Kim. "ICONLOOP will continue deploying DID-based authentication systems in a range of settings to make facility access and use more convenient and secure."
ICONLOOP had previously built a blockchain DID-based integrated identity verification system at CHANGeUP GROUND in Pohang, creating a case of DID deployment across an entire building and its resident companies. CHANGeUP GROUND is a startup space POSCO operates to nurture venture companies; the full deployment of the system strengthened technical security so that resident companies can focus on developing innovative technology with confidence.
