ICONLOOP Selected as Lead Contractor for the Pilot Project to Build a Blockchain-Based Gangwon Chronic Disease Integrated Management Platform
The project is the healthcare entry among the ten tasks selected for the 2020 Blockchain Public Sector Pilot Program, run by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). ICONLOOP has formed a consortium with Ubiplus and Edware, and the three companies will jointly carry out the eight-month project, which runs through this December.
Gangwon Province has a high proportion of elderly residents and low access to medical care, leaving it with a healthcare environment in need of improvement — while at the same time, as a digital healthcare regulation-free special zone, it is an ideal setting for growing the healthcare industry. The project centers on building a blockchain-based health information management system for patients with chronic cardio-cerebrovascular conditions who have difficulty visiting hospitals or fall into blind spots of care, working with Gangwon Province public health centers and the Gangwon Chronic Disease Integrated Remote Management Center.
The blockchain-based platform enables DID (Decentralized ID)-based user authentication, identification, and integrated sign-in, and allows health information to be managed transparently and securely. On that foundation, AI cardio-cerebrovascular analysis and prediction data, along with health data measured through IoMT (medical IoT) devices, will be delivered to residents as mobile services.
This will make it possible to realize self-sovereignty over reliable, secure health information, while identifying and validating a future-oriented self-care model specialized in cardio-cerebrovascular conditions, including personalized disease analysis and prediction services. The goal is to link the platform with Gangwon Province's digital healthcare regulation-free special zone to complete an uninterrupted chronic disease management system spanning everything from self-care before a hospital visit to hospital care afterward.
The project is expected to deliver a healthier Gangwon Province through direct improvement in cardio-cerebrovascular conditions, reduce the socioeconomic cost of managing those conditions, secure the golden hour for treatment through AI analysis and prediction, and enable preventive care for potentially at-risk groups. Beyond that, it is expected to lay a bridgehead for Gangwon Province's future growth engines by fostering knowledge-based, high-value-added industries such as blockchain, DID, AI, and big data.
