Now in its 26th year, the Jeju International Tourism Marathon Festival is Jeju's first citizens' marathon, run with everyday citizen runners since 1995. It is hosted by Jeju Self-Governing Province, organized by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Tourism Association and sanctioned by the K.A.A.F (Korea Association of Athletics Federations). As the race that brings the marathon back after the COVID-19 shutdown, it drew roughly 3,500 runners from on and off the island, and broof finisher certificates were issued to the roughly 2,000 participants who completed their course — an added layer of meaning. This was the first time blockchain finisher certificates had been issued to marathon participants anywhere in Jeju; the organizers wanted to raise the transparency of the certification while giving participants a memorable experience.
