A commencement with no paper diplomas, for 2,830 graduates
On February 18, Hoseo University issued degree certificates and awards to 2,830 bachelor's, master's and doctoral graduates through broof, ICONLOOP's blockchain certificate service, holding a contactless commencement ceremony with no paper diplomas handed out.
Hoseo University adopted broof to do away with the hassle graduates had long put up with: paying a fee and filing a request on a government civil affairs site, or showing up at a community service center in person just to pick up a physical copy. Those steps used to be unavoidable, because a government body had to act as the "notary" confirming that a certificate was genuine. With broof, the issuer itself — the university — puts a certificate whose authenticity is certain at the moment of issuance onto the blockchain, and when it is needed, a third party can access the chain with the holder's permission and retrieve the academic record. The unnecessary steps simply disappear. :)
broof, the blockchain-based certificate issuance service developed by ICONLOOP, lets an institution issue credentials without standing up a separate data system of its own, cutting the cost of producing and storing paper documents. Recipients can look up their blockchain certificates whenever and wherever they like, and they decide for themselves what certificate information to disclose. Hoseo University plans to issue blockchain degree certificates through broof every semester from this commencement onward. ICONLOOP, which already counts POSTECH and Hoseo University among broof's users, will keep adding features and expanding the service so that many more universities and institutions can simplify a certificate issuance process that has been inconvenient for far too long.
