A strategic partnership to build an interchain NFT game platform
ICONLOOP has signed a strategic partnership with the ICON Foundation and 2bytes to build and grow Spera, a blockchain-based interchain NFT game platform.
Spera, which the partnership will bring to life within the year, is an interchain NFT game platform that connects NFTs issued across different blockchain networks and platforms so they can interoperate. The name comes from the Latin for "to dream," and doubles as a contraction of "space opera."
Most NFTs issued and traded on blockchain platforms today can do little beyond be owned, and even the NFTs used in play-to-earn (P2E) games are limited to the game and the platform they were made for. Spera uses BTP (Blockchain Transmission Protocol), the interchain technology that links blockchains together, so that NFTs from different ecosystems and different chains can be connected to games running on Spera and actually used — with support for P2E games to follow.

Technology from ICON, the global interchain project, that connects different blockchains and raises interoperability between them. Unlike centralized cross-chain approaches, it provides high security and scalability through decentralized connections.
Under the partnership, ICONLOOP will support the technical development and construction of the platform, drawing on its experience building and launching a range of blockchain technologies and services, while the ICON Foundation will support interoperability and ecosystem development using its BTP interchain technology. 2bytes, the game startup now moving into building and scaling blockchain services and businesses, provides localization, QA, global consulting and other services to some 40 game developers including Pearl Abyss and Kakao Games, and recently set up a game development studio of its own.

Launched in 2017 under the ICON Foundation, the global interchain project ICON is a Layer 1 blockchain with smart contracts and blockchain compatibility; ICX is the virtual asset of the ICON network. ICON's BTP (Blockchain Transmission Protocol) is an inter-blockchain communication protocol that makes it possible to share data, NFTs and other assets between blockchains. It works regardless of a given blockchain's consensus algorithm, and it differs from the bridge solutions available today in that it verifies transactions between chains through smart contracts rather than relying on node validators. Blockchains set to be connected to ICON through BTP include Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Polkadot, NEAR Protocol and Harmony, and its main DeFi projects are Balanced DAO, Omm Finance, Optimus Protocol and Equality Exchange.

2bytes is a game startup formed by specialists with hands-on experience and know-how in the successful global launch of major PC and mobile titles, offering localization, QA, operations and consulting optimized for overseas markets. As of January 2022 it provides a range of global services to some 40 game developers including Pearl Abyss and Kakao Games, and is stepping up its own game development as well.
