Modang, the Jeju shared logistics platform ICONLOOP helped build, is beginning pilot service testing.

The Modang project has been under way since Jeju Province was selected in May for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2021 digital logistics service demonstration program. ICONLOOP and ArtPQ were chosen as contractors and have been building the platform since.

Modang is an open platform offering a range of services aimed at overcoming the constraints of island geography and realizing a hub city for digital shared logistics where people and nature coexist. Through it, the province plans to relieve the inconvenience residents face when island regions cannot be served, to provide and expand joint logistics services for Jeju businesses, and to spread the sharing economy paradigm of splitting the use of space you need.

Services offered by Modang, Jeju's shared logistics platform

Joint delivery service for goods that cannot be shipped to island regions

Joint delivery service for Jeju-produced goods (agricultural produce, manufactured items and more)

Shared space matching service

ICONLOOP took part in building Modang's blockchain-based logistics history management system and its payment component. Applying loopchain, its in-house high-performance blockchain engine, it automated data from document work that used to be done by hand and encrypted identification information for goods and products, making logistics history management safe and transparent.

ArtPQ, which has been building the platform alongside ICONLOOP, is a leading Jeju company that has accumulated technology and wide-ranging experience over 20 years, focusing on application software development, database construction and web technology development while also developing content and cultural products rooted in Jeju cultural content.

Here is how pilot service testing for Modang will run.

Modang pilot service testing periods and participants

Joint delivery service for Jeju-produced goods (agricultural produce, manufactured items and more)

  • Testing period: November 24, 2021 - December 20, 2021
  • Participants: companies using Jeju joint logistics

Shared space matching service

  • Testing period: November 24, 2021 - December 20, 2021
  • Participants: general public (first come, first served)

Joint delivery service for goods that cannot be shipped to island regions

  • Testing period: December 1, 2021 - December 20, 2021
  • Participants: general public (first come, first served)

* Members of the public can apply by checking the notice posted in the news section of the Jeju provincial website (recruiting the Modang pilot testing group).

Working closely with Jeju Province and ArtPQ, ICONLOOP will apply what comes out of the pilot testing period to platform development, run a trial with logistics companies and users in the first half of next year, and launch the full service in the second half of 2022.

ICONLOOP had already co-developed Jeju Safe Code, the island's tourism quarantine system, with Jeju Province under a public-private partnership agreement. Well received by users and businesses right across Jeju, Jeju Safe Code was named a best practice in the province's 2021 civil complaint system improvement awards and has become a model for sustainable tourism and quarantine.

We are glad this project lets us bring our blockchain technology to Jeju's first digital shared logistics platform. ICONLOOP will keep working to create more cases, across more fields, where the value of blockchain reaches everyday life.
