ICONLOOP's blockchain DID powers the visitor invitation feature in SK Telecom's NUGU SmartHome.
Today we want to introduce the visitor invitation feature in NUGU SmartHome, SK Telecom's IoT smart home service, which runs on ICONLOOP's blockchain DID (Decentralized Identity) technology.
The service, unveiled last November through a partnership between SK Telecom and ICONLOOP, applies blockchain-based DID, which lets identity be verified without any central authority. In apartment complexes using the service, visitors can now enter safely, easily and conveniently — no going through the security office, no calling up the household they are visiting.
The service is already live in roughly 20,000 apartment units, including DMC Central IPARK, Gimpo Hangang IPARK and Tenz Hill Complex 1. A visitor stores the issued visitor pass on their own mobile device and presents it on arrival at the complex, and the blockchain verifies it and grants entry. That reduces the risk of exposing the visitor's personal information while still confirming their right to visit thoroughly — a smart visit system that is both safer and more trustworthy.
Using the visitor invitation feature in NUGU SmartHome is simple. A resident of the complex registers a visitor in advance through the NUGU SmartHome app, an invitation is sent to that person as a KakaoTalk message, and the visitor receives a blockchain DID-based visitor pass through the VisitMe app. With that pass, the visitor can open the building's main entrance from the app without calling the household at all. If they are arriving by car, the vehicle can be registered in advance too and parking is taken care of — so everything from entering the complex to getting through the main entrance flows naturally. - Inviter: issuing a visitor pass in the NUGU SmartHome app
- 1. On the NUGU SmartHome app's main screen, the inviter selects Register a Visitor under Complex Services
2. Once the visitor's details (name / mobile number) are entered and registration is complete, a KakaoTalk invitation message is sent to that mobile number and a VisitMe visitor pass is issued
- Visitor: using the visitor pass in VisitMe
- 1. The visitor sees the invitation message in KakaoTalk and can view the pass in VisitMe
2. On arriving at the apartment complex, the visitor selects Open Door on the VisitMe pass
3. Once the search finds the main entrance registered to the pass, the door can be opened
