Local governments keep widening their use of DID
Gyeongsangnam-do Province announced that starting today, March 10, it is rolling out the 'Gyeongnam Electronic Wallet' app, a service built on DID (decentralized identifier) technology. It launches on a pilot basis at the Gyeongsangnam-do Arboretum and Jinhae Marine Park, and the province says it later plans to link up with the blockchain-based decentralized identity system already running in Busan Metropolitan City so that residents can enter Busan City Hall using a mobile visitor pass.
Local governments are steadily widening their adoption of DID, and ICONLOOP is right there with them. A blockchain-based service using decentralized identity technology

Gyeongsangnam-do Province announced on the 9th that its 'Gyeongnam Electronic Wallet' app service, which uses decentralized identity technology, would begin on the 10th.
The 'Gyeongnam Electronic Wallet' is a blockchain-based digital service that uses decentralized identity technology to let residents keep digital cards — such as the Gyeongnam Resident Card and the Gyeongnam Representative Library membership card — on their smartphones, verify that they are who they say they are, and use public services right away.
Residents who have been issued a Gyeongnam Resident Card can obtain a library membership card on mobile without visiting the Gyeongnam Representative Library in person, and can use the electronic library and smart library the moment it is issued.
And when using public facilities, instead of the various certificates that used to be required to prove eligibility for a fee reduction, residents can simply present their Gyeongnam Resident Card through the 'Gyeongnam Electronic Wallet' app to have their eligibility confirmed.
The public facilities currently running the pilot are the Gyeongsangnam-do Arboretum and Jinhae Marine Park. At the arboretum, visitors go to the ticket office and present a QR code or their detailed information to have their discount eligibility confirmed; at the marine park, they scan a QR code at the ticket machine to confirm eligibility for a discount.
Starting with this app service, Gyeongsangnam-do plans to keep expanding public services built on the mobile resident card, and later intends to offer a function that lets residents enter Busan City Hall with a mobile visitor pass by linking to the blockchain-based decentralized identity system already operating in Busan Metropolitan City.
