Ch. 1 - A company that led the 2020 blockchain industry: ICONLOOP
Korean blockchain company ICONLOOP recently put Jeju Safe Code, a blockchain-based tourism quarantine system for Jeju, into full operation. The company's decentralized identifier (DID) service has been designated an Innovative Financial Service by the Financial Services Commission (FSC). Founded in 2016, ICONLOOP developed Zzeung, a DID service built on the MyID platform. It has also secured a temporary regulatory sandbox permit from the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) for a blockchain-based mobile driver's license service. That service is due out in the second half of the year; today Zzeung already offers identity verification for the financial sector, entry authentication and credential verification. Beyond the mobile driver's license, more forms of verification are planned, and the service is set to be adopted by other banks and financial institutions as well.
Ch. 2 - MSIT holds its 2021 blockchain program briefing on the 11th
Together with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), MSIT held an integrated online briefing on its 2021 blockchain programs on the 11th for people working across the blockchain industry, academia and research. MSIT's blockchain industry budget rose by KRW 18.8 billion, from KRW 34.3 billion in 2020 to KRW 53.1 billion in 2021.
