A blockchain-based mobile driver's license is coming to Zzeung
ICONLOOP has received temporary authorization from the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) regulatory sandbox for a blockchain-based mobile driver's license service.
The authorization puts the mobile driver's license inside Zzeung, ICONLOOP's blockchain DID identity verification service. With ICONLOOP's mobile driver's license, the Zzeung app stores your driver's license securely on your own smartphone, so you carry it on mobile and submit it in seconds whenever it is needed. Because the service is built on blockchain DID technology, the blockchain prevents forgery, tampering and repudiation — and when you submit the license, the copy held on your smartphone is verified and presented through the blockchain rather than through a central authority. Personal data such as your usage history never goes to a third party, and you alone control and manage it, so your privacy is protected as well.
The service is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2021. Zzeung already handles identity verification for financial services, entry verification and credential verification, and with the mobile driver's license joining them, ICONLOOP plans to keep refining the service so that people can gather the personal data scattered across all of these verifications and manage and control it safely on their own.
