MyID Alliance November Newsletter - Jeju Safe Code Goes Fully Live

Here is the latest on Zzeung, which keeps widening the range of places it is used — identity verification in finance, Jeju Safe Code, the Gangwon chronic disease integrated management platform — along with an introduction to our newest partners.

Here is what is new at the MyID Alliance this month.

In November, Jeju Safe Code, which runs on MyID's Zzeung, enters full commercial service.

Jeju Safe Code is a service that ICONLOOP and Jeju Province developed jointly, as a public-private partnership, for COVID-19 containment on an island that draws 15 million visitors a year. It is built on Zzeung, the DID identity verification service running on the MyID platform.

The service was presented last month as one of the key policies in Jeju's newly announced Jeju New Deal Comprehensive Plan. Using DID technology, it protects personal privacy while making entry verification more convenient, and the plan is to raise the efficiency of containment measures dramatically.

Beyond Jeju Safe Code, Zzeung is also being used as the means of authentication in the Blockchain-Based Gangwon Chronic Disease Integrated Management Platform now under way in Gangwon Province. On that basis, Zzeung issues users a DID, laying the groundwork for the "right to self-determination over one's own data" — the ability to manage and control ownership of one's data directly — and the "right to move one's own data," which permits third parties to receive and manage that information. That is the cornerstone for MyData, a subject drawing steady attention.

Zzeung is also growing fast in other ways: a joint promotion with Shinhan Bank, the "Zzeung real-name verification issuance event," pushed the number of people who have issued real-name verification through Zzeung past 40,000, and roughly a month after launch the app reached second place on the popularity chart in the Apple App Store's finance category, putting it among the top-ranked apps.

DID used to be thought of as technology and nothing more. Now that it is genuinely becoming part of our lives as a service, the MyID Alliance will keep doing everything it can to return sovereignty over data to the individual.

More news next month.
