POSTECH has issued its August diplomas on the blockchain.

On August 29, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) issued diplomas to 293 graduates — bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, including the Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology — through broof, the blockchain certificate service.

This is the second such issuance, following February, when POSTECH became the first university in Korea to issue blockchain diplomas to every one of its graduates.

Developed by ICONLOOP, broof is a blockchain-based certificate issuance service that lets an institution issue certificates without building a separate data system of its own, cutting the cost of printing and storing paper documents. Recipients can look up their blockchain certificates whenever and wherever they want, and they choose for themselves what certificate information to disclose. Certificates can also be managed, stored and submitted through Zzeung, the blockchain DID identity verification service launched recently.

With COVID-19 spreading more widely and events and gatherings being restricted, commencement and graduation ceremonies are being cancelled or postponed. We hope a blockchain-based certificate issuance service can help slow the spread.
